While much of the world focused on the anticipation of welcoming in a new year, the
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation focused on closing the deal on a land project years in the making. The date was December 30, 2013. RMEF headed up a collaborative effort to acquire more than 13,000 acres in the
Headwaters of the John Day River in northeast Oregon. RMEF bought the land and conveyed it at a bargain price to the United States.
Several months later, members of RMEF's executive staff met with their U.S. Forest Service (USFS) project partners to both reminisce and celebrate the major accomplishment in Denver, Colorado, and presented them with a commemorative gift to mark the occasion.
